Treatment

  • Assistive devices: Using assistive devices such as a brace and orthotics shoe insert can provide support to the foot. Customized shoes with stiff soles can also be worn to reduce pressure on the foot.

  • Arthroscopic debridement: In this procedure, the surgeons may make small incisions to remove loose cartilage as well as bone spurs from the ankle joint to provide relief from pain.
  • Arthrodesis: The surgeons may fuse the bones of the ankle joint to eliminate movement and reduce pain. Metal pins, plates and rods may be used to hold the bones together till they fuse.
